Nach dem Brand mit Malou Berlin

We have the pleasure to invite you for a screening of «Nach dem Brand » (« after the fire ») the 20th of April at 19 pm in the foyer of Arche, followed by a discussion with the director of the film, Malou Berlin, who studied Script in Filmarche in 2006.

Synopsis :

Mölln 1992
Seven-year-old Ibrahim Arslan narrowly survived the fire attack that killed three family members. 15 years later, shortly before the perpetrators were released from prison, I met Ibrahim and was impressed by his openness and love of life. During the five years of filming, he shows himself caught between the consequences of the violence he experienced and his desire for a carefree present. The Arslan family allows us to participate in their everyday lives, and thus also in their confrontations with their personal and at the same time political history – the first racially motivated fire attack of the German post-war period with a fatal outcome. „After the Fire“ creates space for a constructive examination of the consequences and circumstances of violence and racism then and now.

Mölln 1992
Der siebenjährige Ibrahim Arslan überlebte knapp den Brandanschlag, bei dem drei Familienmitglieder starben.
15 Jahre später, kurz vor der Haftentlassung der Täter, lerne ich Ibrahim kennen und bin beeindruckt von seiner Offenheit und Lebenslust. Während der fünf Jahre andauernden Filmarbeiten zeigt er sich im Spannungsfeld zwischen den Folgen der erlebten Gewalt und seinem Verlangen nach einer unbekümmerten Gegenwart. Die Familie Arslan lässt uns an ihrem Alltag teilhaben, und damit auch an ihren Auseinandersetzungen mit ihrer persönlichen und zugleich politischen Geschichte – dem ersten rassistisch motivierten Brandanschlag der deutschen Nachkriegszeit mit tödlichem Ausgang. „Nach dem Brand“ schafft Raum für eine konstruktive Auseinandersetzung mit den Folgen und Umständen von Gewalt und Rassismus damals und heute.
