Kanchi Wichmann is a British/German filmmaker living in Berlin and the writer/director of the 2011 feature film Break My Fall. Her Berlin-set queer comedy webseries Mixed Messages (DE, 2017)
was made for a budget of under €3,000 and currently has worldwide distribution through tello Films (Canada – distributing worldwide), Peccadillo Pictures (UK) and Pro-Fun Media (DE). Both Mixed Messages and Break My Fall are available on iTunes, Amazon, google play etc.
As well as making films Kanchi has been invited to speak and lecture on the subject of queer, feminist and female film cultures worldwide including the Barbican Centre (London) panel event
on web series and New Queer Cinema hosted by iconic US film critic and scholar B Ruby Rich.
Her 2016 article on the state of film funding Lesbian Films Don’t Make Money for Another Gaze magazine went viral upon its publication.

Lesbian Films Don’t Make Money

In this lecture we will be looking at the medium of fiction web series specifically in the context of LGBT film culture. We will focus on issues of visibility and validation, accessibiliy and aesthetics
within the short form episodic film. We will be watching examples of queer web series from around the world, including some of Kanchi’s own work and she will answer your questions on
production and distribution.
Come prepared to share your thoughts, ideas and questions!

Lecture time will be approx 90 minutes depending on discussion time.
