„The Critics Company is a filmmaking collective based in Kaduna,
Nigeria popularly known for making sci-fi films with mobile phones.

Since being founded in 2015, we have been driven by the desire to create magical experiences through film for ourselves and our community as a whole, this is the core of every production translating time, experiences, thoughts, and feelings using art as a medium.
After recently being selected as a part of the YouTube Black voices classof 22, we are understanding that the secret to success is in every drop of perseverance you inhabit.

Our work has been able to cross borders through different means, ranging from features on internationally recognized platforms like BBC, Reuters, Al-Jazeera, Indie Film Festival, The art of protest by gestalten, to collaborations with top brands and great minds in the likes of Kaspersky, Jacobjonasthecompany, Samsung, Dan Mace to acquiring titles and awards such as the first webby nomination from Nigeria, Our short films Z: The Beginning and Timothee winning best short film and best international short film at the African Smartphone International Film festival and Indie Film Fest respectively.

We are constantly pushing the boundaries of what you can achieve when you put your mind to it, whether you have a professional camera and an entire film crew or a smartphone, DIY equipment, and a group of like-minded individuals.“

Eric Macedo is a social anthropologist, working on themes related to colonialism, alterity relations, and science fiction. He is an editor of the website aperfectstorm.net.

„The Critics Company“ ist ein Filmemacher-Kollektiv mit Sitz in Kaduna,
Nigeria, das dafür bekannt ist, Sci-Fi-Filme mit Handys zu drehen.

Seit unserer Gründung im Jahr 2015 werden wir von dem Wunsch angetrieben, magische Erfahrungen durch Filme für uns selbst und unsere Gemeinschaft als Ganzes zu schaffen. Dies ist der Kern jeder Produktion, die Zeit, Erfahrungen, Gedanken und Gefühle mit Hilfe von Kunst als Medium übersetzt.
Nachdem wir kürzlich in die YouTube Black Voices Class of 22 aufgenommen wurden, haben wir verstanden, dass das Geheimnis des Erfolgs in jedem Tropfen Ausdauer liegt, den man in sich trägt.

Unsere Arbeit hat es geschafft, durch verschiedene Mittel Grenzen zu überschreiten. Das reicht von Beiträgen auf international anerkannten Plattformen wie BBC, Reuters, Al-Jazeera, Indie Film Festival, The art of protest by gestalten, bis hin zu Kooperationen mit Top-Marken und großen Köpfen wie Kaspersky, Jacobjonasthecompany, Samsung, Dan Mace bis hin zum Erwerb von Titel und Auszeichnungen wie die erste Webby-Nominierung aus Nigeria, unsereKurzfilme Z: The Beginning und Timothee, die als bester Kurzfilm und besten internationalen Kurzfilm auf dem African Smartphone International Film Festival Filmfestival und dem Indie Film Fest.

Wir verschieben ständig die Grenzen dessen, was man erreichen kann, wenn man sich etwas in den Kopf setzt, egal ob man eine professionelle Kamera und ein ganzes Filmteam oder ein Smartphone, eine Heimwerkerausrüstung und eine Gruppe Gleichgesinnter hat.“
