Animated documentaries can be a cost-effective means of film production and are suitable for
sensitive content. The workshop will present a short theoretical introduction to the topic, the history
of animated docs and the most recent trends. We will watch some films with different subjects such
as politics, arts and gender. In the second half the participants make a short animated film in
analogue cut-out animation technique. All material required is provided.

Zharko Ivanov is part of the jury of 2019’s AKE DIKHEA. He is a PhD candidate in Film and Literature
theory at the University of Skopje and runs the production company “Flip Book” with which he has
produced more than 20 short animated, documentary and live action films. As a director, his films
have been shown at more than 100 festivals around the world and winning more than 15 awards.
